Page too deep

Crawl depth is the number of clicks from the home page to reach a URL. Pages buried deep are crawled less, linked less, and ranked lower.

What it is

This check flags pages whose depth exceeds the configured threshold from the start URL.

Why it matters for SEO

Search engines spend limited crawl budget per site and follow internal links to find and value pages. The deeper a page, the fewer signals reach it and the slower it is discovered and refreshed.

Example

home → category → subcategory → filter → product (depth 4)

How to fix

  1. Keep important pages within ~3 clicks of the home page.
  2. Add contextual and hub links from high-authority pages to deep ones.
  3. Flatten over-nested navigation and pagination.
  4. Surface key deep pages in the sitemap and internal link modules.
